THE MAN BEHIND THE MARATHON - the first trans-European democratic debate – the Newropeans Movement

100 conferences and debates reaching out directly to some 10,000 citizens of 25 nationalities in less than 10 months between October 2002 and July 2003! Franck Biancheri initiated the Newropeans Democracy Marathon and personally moderated all 100 debates on the future of Europe, taking place in 100 cities in 25 different European countries.

  • Franck Biancheri is thus the only person in Europe to have ever taken the pulse of European public opinions, nonetheless to have done it in person, at a given point in time, with large and diverse audiences (25 countries, with participants from all backgrounds: students, elderly people, agriculturists, disabled people… - citizens of all kinds from 25 different nationalities).
  • His ability to structure high level debates among experts and to stimulate thinking that is both sound and innovative has been unanimously recognized by the 25 Foreign Affair Ministries and the Common Institutions alomst systematically represented at the anticipation seminars organized by the Europe 2020 Think Tank (around 30 seminars since 1999).
  • In 2005, in response to the request of numerous American members of TIESWeb, he undertook a mini-marathon of conferences and debates in the US based on the Newropeans Democracy Marathon model.
  • Between 2006 and 2009, in the framework of the trans-European political movement Newropeans, marathons of debates on the role of Newropeans in the democratisation of the EU take place each year throughout Europe where Franck Biancheri takes an active part.
